Need help in deciding which career path is best for you to take? Or are you starting to feel sluggish or burned out whenever the talk about career comes up? What you will need is the help of a career counsellor.
A career counsellor is basically a person who people come to when they have issues concerning their jobs, or when they are first time employees who would need some help as per their career paths, or even those that are in need of advice as to what job they should apply for.
A career counsellor can be seen typically in educational institutions. There are also career counsellor types who have their own offices. Still others are employed by recruitment and employment agencies. Their purpose is basically to make sure that students are guided as per their career choices, and, in the case of recruitment agencies, that prospective employees know exactly what they will be going through.
A career counsellor may work as a teacher, as a private career counsellor, or as in-house career counsellors when they work in recruitment agencies. There are even those that embark on their own money making ventures and businesses. There is also a career counsellor who work with doctors or social workers in a health management group. A career counsellor may also be employed by companies to intercede in a conflict.
To be a career counsellor, you need to have a college degree in behavioural psychology, career education, human resource management, or career counselling. An education degree is helpful because what you will be doing in this job as a career counsellor is to teach, or educate, a person in terms of his or her career choices
A career counsellor should essentially be a good communicator and be blessed with tremendous energy to be able to inspire and help out other people deal with their own problems. A career counsellor must also have a cheerful attitude, one that lifts people's spirits up, and the willpower to empower other people. A career counsellor should also be a good adviser, have the passion to help others, and know how to listen and when to speak.
